Garrett and Mary Moran

Garrett Moran is Chair of the Governor’s Workforce Council in Connecticut and was until recently the President of Year Up a nonprofit organization that provides technical and life skills training to low income high school graduates who are not employed or enrolled in an educational institution. Garrett served as President of Year Up for six years, originally joining the organization in 2013.Prior to joining Year Up, Garrett served as the COO of Blackstone's Private Equity Group, overseeing the group's day-to-day operations, playing a senior role in its investment process and guiding the firm's CSR initiatives. Prior to joining Blackstone, Garrett was the President of MMC Capital, and was Vice Chairman and co-head of the Banking Group at Donaldson, Lufkin &Jenrette. Garrett has served on several nonprofit boards, including Middlebury College, The Partnership for Connecticut, The Posse Foundation, the Blackstone Foundation, the Connecticut Council for Education Reform and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Brunswick School. He received a BA from Middlebury College and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Mary Penniman Moran is the Treasurer and Vice Chair of the Natural Resources Defense Council Board, a large environmental NGO. She also co-chairs the dean’s advisory council for the Yale School of the Environment and serves on the board of the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library. In the past she has served on many other boards for academic, arts, and social service institutions. As a profession, Mary worked as an investment banker for Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette, specializing in underwriting and M&A for media and telecommunications companies. Prior to that, she worked in publishing and cable television for Rolling Stone magazine and Home Box Office. Mary graduated from Trinity College with a B.A. in Literature and from the Wharton Business School with a degree in Finance.
